At the end of the war, Rancho added a polio ward and by the 1950s it was a model hospital, and the farm aspect was abandoned. In 1952 Harriman retired, passing away the following year. The aging former poor farm turned hospital had run its course by the 1980s, and it was abandoned, moving across the street to a new facility. Another rename arrived in 1932, when the location chose to focus more on rehabilitation and medicine, it was dubbed “Ranchos Los Amigos.” By 1934 Rancho sprawled across 540 acres, and had over 2,700 patients.

Aside from the livestock, we also boast a six-acre corn maze, the first on the Seacoast, and a yearly Sunflower Festival, the first in New Hampshire which has carried the farm name into the surrounding states. We grow the very best pumpkins, squash, gourds, straw, cornstalks, fall decorative corn & more! We feature products from our own farm and local farms, as well as products from NH Made members. In the winter months, we offer public and private horse-drawn Wagon and Sleigh rides. In late July/early August we hold our Sunflower Festival. Our Sunflower Festival is a special event put on every summer to celebrate our beautiful sunflower fields.
BOOZE & BLOOMS
The fact that Tran is the son of Vietnamese immigrants and has a Vietnamese surname could help him build name recognition but won’t be determinative, DeSipio said. The district includes Orange County’s Little Saigon and Vietnamese Americans account for about 17% of voters, according to Political Data, Inc. As a first-time candidate emerging from a crowded primary, Tran faces the challenge of building name recognition against a candidate who is already well known in the district. The field will only be available for viewing during the festival dates.

Voters here favored Biden over Trump by 13 percentage points in 2020, making Valadao one of the most vulnerable GOP incumbents in the country. Tulare County dairy farmer Rep. David Valadao has been in office since 2013, save for a two-year interlude when he was temporarily ousted by Democratic challenger T.J. Cox during the 2018 blue wave of congressional victories nationwide. Valadao regained his seat in 2020 and was one of 10 House Republicans to vote for Trump’s impeachment after the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Five of the six seats are currently held by Republicans, with four of those five in congressional districts that President Biden won in the 2020 election. The former superintendent’s home was used as the exterior for Mud Creek Shady Rest Home in the 2002 horror-comedy Bubba Ho-Tep, starring one of my favorite actors, Bruce Campbell as Elvis. The first occurred in January, then, two simultaneous fires, including the one that took out the Mud Creek Shady Rest Home location, occurred in June, the structure, kept behind two sets of fences is still recognizable though.

Each year, a series of questions are placed into the maze to help you navigate the winding paths. We hope that some of the answers are ones that you know, while others make you think “well, I never knew that”. Not only do sunflowers make delicious oil, but they are also beautiful to look at, and everyone loves to have their picture taken in front of a field of sunflowers. We are no strangers to agritourism having run a successful corn maze for 16 years, so we started our Sunflower Festival in 2015 as an event to bring the community onto the farm. We also partnered with Make-A-Wish NH to donate 10% of profits through the event to give back. Sunflowers are just gorgeous – and there’s something so cheerful about their bright yellow petals.
NH's Best Family-Friendly Campgrounds
We donate 10% of admissions from the Sunflower Festival. In 2017, we were thrilled to find out that we were able to fulfill the whole cost of a wish for a very deserving little girl. In 2018, we doubled our donation fulfilling two wishes!
Love Your Mother (Earth): Earth Day Events
OstrichLand USA is a great place for family fun, photography, field trips, and bus tours. The purpose is to support schools and teachers in their efforts to incorporate garden-based themes in their classrooms and curricula. There is a hands-on planting exercise where each child will plant flower seeds and an herb to take home.
During a tour, you get a behind-the-scenes look at how a variety of food is grown and meet farmers who grow crops and raise livestock. In fact, the food your family eats may in fact come from one of Southern California’s family farms. Beyond the Coppal House Farm mentioned above, there are plenty of other flowering fields in New Hampshire worth checking out.
Visit with mini-donkeys, goats, sheep, llamas, pigs, emus, chickens, peacocks, ducks, geese & more! The animals love visitors, and will eat from your hands. They are also well-known for their amazing pumpkin patch farm tours. At the Crean Family Farm, you can peek into the barn doors and experience a farmyard adventure. Learn about life on an Orange County farm while you feed goats and sheep and milk a replica cow.
At this time, if you would like to visit our farm, our farm stand is open for purchasing farm product from 10 am - 5 pm daily. We ask that the public not wander down our farm lanes at this time, as equipment is in operation and we are preparing to open our fields for our Brown Bat Corn Maze on September 2nd! In 2013 a real estate broker wanted to re-establish the poor farm as a way to solve LA’s growing homeless crisis. During the same time there were talks for the area being redeveloped for a county office building.
If you need additional assistance, we have "corn cops" in the maze to point you in the right direction. When you crack an egg open you can tell how the chicken was raised. Pasture raised chicken egg whites do not spread, and they may appear cloudy in color. The color of the yolk is determined by the diet of the chicken. The paler the yolk, the more commercial feed they have eaten.
It’s a beautiful springtime event the family will cherish every year. Head on over to this amazing sunflower field in New Hampshire for the experience of a lifetime. Our culinary oils are available for purchase from November through July in our self-serve farm stand, or August through October in our full service farm stand. Currently, our sunflower oil is available at most farmer's markets that we attend.
When selecting your tickets you will select your arrival time to stagger arrival and help us socially distance. For our schedule of dates and more info about a specific market, visit our SHOP page.
We are excited to say that we have plans to expand our culinary oil offerings. In 2017, we grew our first crop of camelina, an oil known for its high omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, vitamin E content, and it's ability to lower your blood cholesterol. Camelina also boasts extensive skin benefits due to its vitamin E and omega content. In 2018, we will be growing pumpkins to harvest and press into pumpkin seed oil. The health benefits of pumpkin seed oil are extensive, making it a worthy addition to our oil offerings. Public safety and immigration will also likely factor into the campaign.
